PLOVERS CROSSING
One of my wisdom tree series of paintings. These came about in direct response to the grief of the Australian Bush fires, the grief of the people's lost homes, animals and devastation to the land herself. Oftentimes after a fire the trees, with blackened skin are the only ones left standing, strong and resolute, alongside the undergrowth turned to ash. The birds featured are all from my local neighbourhood. The cockatoo's loudly vocalise their presence, whereas the tawny frog mouth's hide in plain sight. They are so well camouflaged they look like tree bark and take some 'real looking' to see them. The Plovers are a joy to me and pain.. seeing them raise their young within cm's of the road is hard to witness... so I'm celebrating two babies alive here. Art as a painted prayer. |
