Birthday . . . play day

On Friday 24th Aug, i celebrated my 44th birthday... and this year I decided to gift myself a whole day to just play in my studio and create a double journal page spread just for me ... I didn't think I'd share it here, but you know what... I've been meeting some wonderful folks in the art world of late, and authentic sharing of who they are is the most inspiring and comforting thing in the world... I am relatively new to art journaling, but wow!  I have fallen in LOVE with it! I've been hugely inspired by a lovely lady named Effy Wild ... see her website here : http://effywild.com she makes wonderful video's of art journal pages. Also a dear new friend I've made via my Creativitea times Lisa L. (hugs to you both).

I wrote some 'free writing' on these pages... mainly about what orange means to me.. and the 'key of creativity' ... it's central to my life.. and it was interesting to spend time noticing and feeling that.
I then set about gathering some magazines (actually I may have started that the night before... ) and ripping out pages of anything that took my fancy... not worrying about how I might use it... just... gathering.  This is especially fun, you don't have to edit... you just enjoy the visual smorgasbord.

. . . and here it is.. I was reminded how important nature is.. and to spend more time there, it's rejuvenating and comforting. I also place importance on birds in my life, I have pet chooks who sometimes give me eggs (they're not doing that lately... and we miss their nourishing oval presents). A cup of tea means the world to me, . . .

Sparkly chandeliers, live music ... the feminine ... and swirly patterns and fresh flowers ... cup cakes for their beauty often more than their taste would you believe... I feel the same about macaroons.. they're the cutest things.. but not much nourishment in them.  Ha... I notice there's no chocolate... well I try and go lightly on that .. dark dark is best.

I had such a beautiful time creating these pages... I felt like I was honouring myself in a very creative way and that felt sooo good!
I realise there's not much 'art' or 'painting' in this method.. but I'm ok with that too.  This technique is one that simply allows me to play...
